The Residents and Fellows section of the American Physician Scientists Association (APSA) is focused on nurturing training environments that help develop physician scientists during their residency and fellowship. Get involved

We welcome ad-hoc committee members from diverse training programs, including Physician Scientist Training Programs (PSTP) and Research in Residency Initiatives (RIR), as well residents in categorical programs and fellows who are passionate about long term research careers. We maintain strong connections with academic and research institutions to promote the interests of residents and fellows.

• APSA Career Center A resource hub tailored specifically for physician scientists, providing career advice, job postings, and professional development opportunities.
• Needs Assessment Survey: We conduct detailed surveys to understand the resources most needed by residents and fellows.
• Outreach: Systematic outreach to PSTPs and rising seniors (M4s) to encourage research continuation and engagement through social media campaigns and direct contacts.
• Virtual Content Development: Specialized content aimed at smoothing the transition for residents and fellows into research roles.
• Grant Writing Workshops: Targeted workshops focusing on K-awards and foundational awards, providing fellows with the tools to secure funding and advance their research careers.
• Advanced Mentorship Programs: Matching trainee physician scientists with established professionals in their fields to foster mentorship and career development.
• Special Panel Session at the Joint Meeting: Join us each April to explore innovative approaches to integrate research and clinical practice.
