Trainee Mentorship Programs

APSA Trainee Mentorship Programs

The American Physician Scientists Association is proud to partner with the Association of American Physicians and the American Society for Clinical Investigation to provide mentorship opportunities for trainees of all levels from medical students through residents and fellows.

APSA members are eligible to participate in mentorship programs during the AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting and throughout the year!  Please note that time commitments vary between program type and mentorship groups. We encourage all trainees to take initiative in establishing and maintaining mentoring relationships.

More information is available when registrations open for the Joint Meeting. Stay tuned for emails if you're registered for the next Joint Meeting.

Longitudinal Mentorship Program

Final-year PhD/DPhil dual-degree students, clinical year medical students, residents, and fellows are invited to join a 6-year mentorship program with a family of AAP, ASCI, and near-peer mentors that meet in-person each year at the  Joint Meeting and periodically throughout the year. Mentorship groups comprise late-stage trainees of varying levels and multiple established physician-scientists at various stages of their careers. The focus of this program is on launching careers as physician-scientists and accelerating research impact. Must be an APSA member to participate.

Cross-Sectional Mentorship Program

First and second year medical students and PhD/DPhil-year trainees in dual-degree programs have the option of joining an AAP, ASCI, and near-peer mentorship group during the Joint Meeting. Mentorship groups comprise trainees of varying levels and career-level physician-scientists. These are one-time mentoring sessions focused on training advice and career exploration. However, trainees are welcome and encouraged to maintain contact with mentors. Must be an APSA member to participate.

Pre-medical Mentorship Program

Pre-medical students also have the option of being paired with a current MD/DO-PhD trainee mentor. Learn more about our mentorship programming for pre-medical students hereMust be an APSA member to participate.
