Institutional Representatives
Institutional Representatives

Institutional Representatives (IRs) serve as the crucial link between APSA and the physician-scientist student population. If you are interested in getting involved, apply to be an Institutional Representative. Applications can be submitted year round and new IRs will be determined between April - September.

The Institutional Representative Responsibilities:

As liaisons between APSA and institutions engaged in training physician-scientists, IRs are tasked with working on APSA’s behalf to advance its mission and raise awareness of APSA at their home institution. In addition to facilitating APSA’s overall goals, IRs should provide a voice for the student population that they represent.

An IR has several other responsibilities to allow them to effectively serve as the critical link between APSA and the student population. In order to assist in these tasks, have prepared packet of information providing detailed information and several email templates for communication.

To make sure IRs get the opportunity to stage involved and engaged in APSA’s national initiatives, IRs have the following expectations:

  1. Have an active APSA membership throughout the year.
  2. Vote in the online APSA elections during the annual AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint meeting.
  3. Attend the Halfway Update Executive Council meeting OR participate in at least one APSA event/initiative per year (ex. attending a regional or national (joint) meeting, being a mentor/mentee in the mentorship program, starting an LC, being a panelist for an APSA interactive session).
  4. Serve as a leader in one of the following APSA settings: (1) APSA local chapter leadership (2) APSA regional meeting planning committee leadership (3) APSA national Standing or Ad hoc Committee member.
  5. Fill out the APSA leadership application in the Spring to stay on as an Institutional Representative for the following year.
