Apply for committees and Institutional Representative positions by April 15. 

After April 15, applications for limited standing committees that are still accepting additional members will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis. Apply by April 15 to increase your chances of being assigned to your top committees! Institutional Representative applications will also be accepted on a rolling basis if the institution still has open spots after April 15.

Helpful definitions:

  • Elected positions: Executive Positions, Standing Committee Chairs, and Members-At-Large. Meet our current leadership here!
  • Appointed positions: Standing and Ad Hoc Committee Members and Institutional Representatives
  • Executive Positions: President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer
  • Standing Committees: Permanent committees that are responsible for APSA's central operations.
  • Member-At-Large (MAL): MALs are responsible for representing the interests of their specified trainee population (pre-professional, resident/fellow, social sciences and humanities, MD/DO-PhD, and MD/DO) on the Executive Council and lead initiatives and expand resources specific to that population.
  • Ad Hoc Committees: Committees focused on specific initiatives and task-driven projects. They are formed and dissolved or advanced to Standing Committees based on need and are overseen by Standing Committees.
  • Institutional Representatives (IR): IRs serve as the voice for and crucial link between APSA and the physician-scientist student population, and are required to participate in select APSA regional or national leadership activities in their role.

About: Standing and Ad Hoc Committee Members and Institutional Representatives are appointed based on applications.

Eligibility: All individuals interested in serving on an APSA committee or as an Institutional Representative must be a current member of APSA during their term. Committee members may be at any stage of training. 

Description: All members of a national committee will be expected to attend monthly committee meetings, which will be arranged by the committee chairs, and actively participate in committee activities. Additional information about each committee can be found here
