The M.D./Ph.D. Program at U.T. (University of Texas) Health San Antonio will host the 2018 APSA South Regional Meeting in San Antonio, TX. on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Registration will be open to all current and prospective M.D./Ph.D. students. We are excited to host this year’s South Regional Meeting, which will include several keynote scientific and career development talks, student poster presentations from many different institutions and departments, and hot-topic break-out sessions. Who Should Attend?

Anyone interested in biomedical research is invited to attend. In particular, MD/PhD students, DO/PhD students, MD or DO students, PhD students, residents, undergraduates and high school students interested in medicine and biomedical research are encouraged to participate.


Registration Information

Registration will be available on this site until January 15th, 2018. You are not required to have an APSA account for registration. For problems or issues with registration please email jamshidi@livemail.uthscsa.edu.


Cancellation Policy

Cancellations may be sent via email to jamshidi@livemail.uthscsa.edu. The American Physician-Scientists Association reserves the right to cancel any program and assumes no responsibility for personal expenses.


Registration Costs

FREE FOR ALL REGISTRANTS. The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is committed to having all interested students attend the conference without the extra burden of registration costs. Regardless or whether or not you are an APSA member, there will be no registration fees for this conference.



The APSA regional meeting will highlight and reward the outstanding achievements of our undergraduate, graduate and medical student researchers. We encourage all residents, high school, medical, graduate and undergraduate students attending the meeting to submit an abstract. The top presentations will be recognized.

Deadline: January 15, 2018 at 5:00 PM CT

Eligibility: Any attendee to the APSA South Regional Meeting is encouraged to submit an abstract proposing a poster and/or oral presentation. 

Abstract Guidelines:  Please limit the abstract to 500 words, excluding title, authors, and affiliations. List the presenting author first. Please include the purpose, methods, results, and a discussion/conclusion. Define abbreviations the first time they appear. References are not necessary for abstract submission.

Please note that the Abstract Book may be made available online prior to the conference. 

Poster Presentations: Posters must fit on a 4’x6’ size presentation board. Presentations will be judged on impact, innovation, and clarity. Top presenters will be awarded prizes.

Poster numbers, presenting authors, and abstract titles will be posted here.

Please follow these very important guidelines:  Poster size 4 feet by 6 feet (48" x 72"). Please DO NOT EXCEED THIS SIZE. Each poster board will have 2 posters mounted on one board.

SAT Airport: The San Antonio airport is about 15 minutes away from campus, and security lines often take 20 minutes or less. For transportation, we recommend Uber or taxi.  

Parking on campus: Guests to campus are encouraged to park in the visitor lot, located at the front of campus, just after the parking security guard.
