APSA Undergraduate Mentoring Program
Apply for the mentorship program today!(open until October 15)
APSA sees as one of its main goals the provision of opportunities for physician scientists in training to gain valuable insights into their future careers through increased interactions not only with others in the same position but with current physician scientists ranging from those who are well established into their careers to those who have joined them. However as future physician scientists, APSA encourages its members to be both on the receiving end as well as the giving end of these interactions.
At APSA, we are excited to announce the start of a new initiative that will be beneficial to physician-scientist trainees in both the undergraduate and the professional school phases of training. The goal of this program is to connect APSA professional (MD or MD/PhD) students with undergraduates who are interested in careers as physician-scientists in one-on-one mentor-mentee relationships. These relationships will be mutually beneficial; our professional students will gain valuable experience in mentoring, and undergraduate students will have willing and enthusiastic mentors who can guide them and answer questions about all aspects of physician-scientist training.
Ideally, the relationships will last one school year, though this is flexible. The mentors and mentees can choose to either meet in person or contact each other via phone, Skype, or e-mail. An undergraduate student will be paired with an APSA professional student student who is in a course of study in which the undergraduate has an interest.
If you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact Bernadette DeRussy (Member, APSA Membership Committee) at email@example.com.
