NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program accepting applications through January 4th

The NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program is an alternative to traditional MD/PhD training. NIH combined-degree students obtain all or part of their Ph.D. research training in one of the more than one thousand biomedical research laboratories in the NIH intramural research program. Supplemental MSTP funding is available to students attending many combined degree programs. Undergraduates should apply simultaneously with applications to University MD/PhD programs, and first or second year medical students can also apply. The NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Ph.D. Program has been particularly popular among students pursuing M.D./Ph.D. training at NIH. This fully-funded accelerated doctoral program allows students to set up dual-mentored Ph.D. research projects involving laboratories at NIH and at either Oxford or Cambridge Universities in England. Other Ph.D. training programs are also available through the NIH Graduate Partnership Programs, and individual partnerships with a Ph.D. program at a students’ Medical School are also possible. You can sign up for the mailing list, contact mdphd@mail.nih.gov to receive more information, or apply. APSA member Cedar Fowler has joined the NIH MD/PhD partnership program as an NIH-Cambridge scholar and written an article for ACPOnline about the various programs available at the NIH for medical students.
