National Cancer Institute Initiates Predoctoral F30 Fellowship Support

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has introduced predoctoral F30 fellowship support for dual degree MD/PhD, DO/PhD candidates. Students training in cancer biology may now apply for these prestigious F30 fellowships awarded through the NCI.

During the time leading up to this change, APSA supported several efforts to increase F30 funding to MD/PhD, DO/PhD trainees, including sponsoring a large MD/PhD, DO/PhD student survey that focused on funding opportunities and identifying shortfalls in funding.

The University of Chicago is pleased to announce that the 5th Annual Career Planning Workshop for Physician Scientists will take place on September 25, 2010. These are quite exciting times for physician-scientists in the field of Internal Medicine and subspecialties. The Univeristy of Chicago PSDP will be hosting this free workshop in Chicago to provide information and advice regarding career pathways open to graduates of MSTPs. A number of our physician-scientist faculty will be presenting and will be available to offer one-on-one counseling to any attendee.

The American Association for Cancer Research Associate Member Council will host a session targeted at physician-scientist trainees at this year's AACR Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on April 19, 2010 (10:30 AM - 12:30 PM). Speakers and panelists for the session include Drs. Each Spring, the Massachusetts General Hospital, the Karolinska Institutet and Cell Press co-organize the Days of Molecular Medicine Symposium (DMM). An important component of this event is the MD-PhD Program, this program provides full scholarships for up to 40 MD-PhDs to attend the meeting. The NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program is an alternative to traditional MD/PhD training. NIH combined-degree students obtain all or part of their Ph.D. research training in one of the more than one thousand biomedical research laboratories in the NIH intramural research program.
