Dr. Juanita Merchant, MD, PhD is a Professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She received her BS from Stanford University and her MD, PhD degrees from Yale University's Medical Scientist Training Program. Dr. Merchant completed her residency in Internal Medicine with a research fellowship in molecular Gastroenterology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a clinical fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of California - Los Angeles. Dr. Merchant is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (where she served on the ASCI Council in 2002-2004), the Association of American Physicians, and the American Gastroenterological Association. At the University of Michigan, she serves on the committee on Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence (STRIDE) and is a Co-Director to the University of Michigan's Medical Scientist Training Program. Dr. Merchant joins the APSA Board of Directors in July of 2009.
