Annual Meeting Committee
The Annual Meeting Committee is responsible for the planning and execution of APSA's Annual Meeting including arranging speakers, planning sessions, fundraising, and running the meeting. There are several objectives that guide the Annual Meeting Committee which include the exposure of future physician-scientists to the wide breadth of research fields, clinical specialties, and career paths one can pursue, the establishment of peer and top-down formal and informal mentoring opportunities provided through APSA and ASCI, as well as career development sessions to address training and career issues such as balancing life and work, balancing clinical responsibilities with research; and deciding to pursuit basic science, translational, or clinical research.
Speaker Events:
- Responsible for inviting keynote speakers from a variety of career pathways, which include industry, academia and government as well as a social/humanities and non-traditional scientists.
- Correspond with keynote speakers as speaker liaison: obtain travel itineraries, and provide keynote speakers with Annual Meeting information.
Career Development Events:
- Organize the panel discussion and leadership events.
- Invite residency programs and program directors to the residency luncheon.
Social Events:
- Organize social events, which include locating and reserving venues.
- Coordinate an events budget with the Annual Meeting Finance Subcommittee.
- Arrange transportation and logistics.
Finance:
- Determine an Annual Meeting budget.
- Work with the APSA Finance Committee and keep tabs on spending.
Registration:
- Set up and maintain website registration.
- Coordinate information updates to registrants with the Annual Meeting Public Relations Subcommittee.
Public Relations:
- Advertise the Annual Meeting to MD-PHD, DO-PHD, MD, DO students and residents.
- Put together Annual Meeting packets containing information on APSA and Chicago (maps, restaurants, etc.).
Meeting Support:
- Coordinate registration and logistics during the Annual Meeting.
- Provide Audio/Visual support during the Annual Meeting.
