2008 APSA Annual Meeting attendee
The Executive Council is made up of nine positions elected by the Institutional Representatives during the APSA Annual Meeting. All candidates for executive positions must have previously served as an APSA Institutional Representative or on a Standing Committee. These terms follow an academic calendar year from July 1 to June 30 of each year. Additional eligibility requirements for these positions are as follows:
Must have previously served on APSA's Executive Council and/or Standing Committees. The President's responsibility is to chair the Executive Council, and lead the organization towards new initiatives while taking a larger focus towards external affairs.
The Vice-President's responsibilities will focus more towards the internal affairs while being intimately involved with the President's activities. The Vice-President will be mainly responsible with working with the individual Institutional Representatives. The Vice-President will act in place of the President if/when the President is unable to do so. Other responsibilities will be designated by the President depending on need.
The Annual Meeting Committee Chair must have previous experience in planning meetings (either on APSA's Annual Meeting Committee or through another organization).
The Treasurer or Chair of the Finance Committee is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records of APSA, presenting an Annual Report of the financial status of APSA to the Executive Council, and putting forth new initiatives to keep the organization financially stable in the short-term and long-term. Prior financial experience is preferred.
The Policy Committee Chair's duties and responsibilities include keeping the Executive Council abreast of the needs and issues facing physician-scientists in training through literature review, APSA surveys, and outcome measure studies. The Chair should have prior experience by previously serving on the APSA Policy Committee, outside previous experience, and should also have experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) or its equivalent so as to carry out outcome measure studies by APSA.
The Public Relations Committee Chair should also have prior experience in serving on any one of APSA's Standing Committees. The chair is largely responsible for maintaining the website, interfacing with other organizations and meeting the needs of ASPA members. A secondary responsibility is to chronicle APSA's events, keeping both an internal and external history of various APSA projects and development.
These positions help maintain representative voices for training pathway, and research/clinical fields on the Executive Council. These members act as direct liaisons between the APSA Membership and the Executive Council. Other Member-At-Large positions to represent other subgroups can be added at the discretion of the Executive Council with approval from the Board of Directors.
