Medical Research Investigators - fMRI
Pre-MD/PhD Club
fMRI
Mission-The purpose of this group is
to give the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign undergraduates
interesting in pursuing an MD/PhD the
skills and tools that they will need in
order to become successful applicants to
MD/PhD programs. This will be
accomplished through a variety of
mechanisms-many of them in conjunction
with the activities of the UIUC Medical
Scholars Program, one of the largest
MD/PhD programs in the country. fMRI
members will serve as a support network
to each other and will have the
opportunity to explore what is involved
in pursuing dual degrees and careers as
physician-scientists.
fMRI is
unique in that it provides its members
with information about, and prepares
them for, the fulfilling career of a
physician-scientist. Many students are
interested in obtaining either their MD
or PhD individually, but fMRI
illustrates how those two degrees can be
combined into a single flexible,
enjoyable, and rewarding career.
Working in conjunction with one of the
country’s most respected MD/PhD Program,
fMRI is able to provide its members with
MD/PhD admissions information, MCAT and
GRE preparation, mentor matches with
current MD/PhD students, community
volunteer opportunities, both summer
research program and campus research
information, mock interview sessions,
panel sessions with principle
investigators, MD/PhD administrators,
fMRI alumni, and much more.
fMRI has
several ambitious goals for the near
future. fMRI, while currently only
established at the University of
Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, would like
to see its membership grow to other
universities and create a network of
other fMRI organizations nationwide. In
addition, fMRI would also like to hold a
workshop at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign campus for other
MD/PhD programs and interested
pre-MD/PhD students. If you would like
more information about University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s fMRI
organization, how to get involved, or
how to bring fMRI to your campus, in
addition to great resource pages for
pre-MD/PhD students, you can:
