From the APSA Meeting Planning
Committee,
APSA is pleased to
invite you to its 4th Annual meeting to be held in Chicago, IL on April 25-27,
2008. The APSA Annual Meeting is being held in conjunction with the American
Society for Clinical Investigation/Association of American Physicians Joint
Annual Meeting, the Central Society for Clinical Research, and the Midwestern
Section of the American Federation for Medical Research. On behalf of APSA, ASCI/AAP
and CSCR/MWAFMR, we are delighted to bring you a stellar meeting filled with
phenomenal speakers, numerous career development and mentorship events, and
several opportunities to gain an invaluable perspective on possible career paths
available to physician-scientists.
APSA members will have
two opportunities to present their scientific research at this combined meeting.
The first opportunity will be the CSCR/MWAFMR Poster Session on Thursday and
Friday, April 24th-25th, 2008. Abstracts submitted for this poster session will
be published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine. The second opportunity
will be at the ASCI Poster Session on Saturday, April 26th, 2008. At this poster
session, you will be able to present your research to the ASCI and AAP members
who are amongst the leading physician-scientists in the country and span across
all sectors ranging from academia, to the NIH, and the industry.
Provided below is the
combined meeting schedule which lists all of the events for which APSA
registrants are entitled to attend. Each event on the agenda has been labeled
with the sponsoring organization. There will be a diverse group of
physician-scientists in attendance ranging from well-established clinical
investigators to K08-holding junior faculty members and physician-scientists at
all levels of training. This combined meeting will provide a unique opportunity
for MD-PhD students and their MD counterparts to interact with their peers as
well as with leading physician-scientists from across the country and the world.
Several opportunities are available for attendees to address career development
issues through informal social sessions, panel discussions, young investigator
events, the leadership workshop, and the Morning Mentorship Breakfasts.
The APSA portion of the
meeting along with the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting will be held at the Fairmont
Hotel. The Fairmont Hotel is located on the northern edge of downtown Chicago
across from the Millennium Park. The CSCR/MWAFMR combined annual meeting, where
APSA registrants are also invited to attend, will be held at the Mid-America
Club located in the Aon Center adjacent to the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, IL.
On behalf of the 2008
APSA Annual Meeting Planning Committee, we have worked diligently to bring you a
meeting that is not only full of stellar speakers but also gives you the
opportunity to be exposed to the wide myriad of career opportunities available
to physician-scientists. Speakers represent every major field of medicine,
academia, NIH, and industry. These renowned speakers include Albert Lasker
Laureates, MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant recipient, NIH Institute
Directors, National Academy of Science members, National Institutes of Medicine
members, and leaders from industry and public/global health.

From the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting
Planning Committee,
The American Society for Clinical
Investigation and the Association of American Physicians invite you to the 2008
ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting in Chicago. If you haven't attended this meeting, you've
likely heard about the amazing opportunity it provides -- from lectures on
breaking advances in biomedicine to the close interaction it affords with
leaders in academic medicine and industry. It's a chance for especially unique
exposure to Department Chairs, Deans, and other high-profile members of the ASCI
and AAP. We invite you to see for yourself -- and because you're an APSA member,
your attendance at the meeting is free. Make the Joint Meeting a priority this
