From the APSA Meeting Planning Committee,

APSA is pleased to invite you to its 2nd Annual meeting to be held in Chicago, IL on April 28-30, 2006.  In conjunction with the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Association of American Physicians, the Central Society for Clinical Research, and the Midwestern Section of the American Federation for Medical Research, we are delighted to bring you a stellar combined meeting for APSA members.  The APSA Annual Meeting is being held in conjunction with the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting and the CSCR/MWAFMR Combined Annual Meeting.

APSA members will have two opportunities to present their scientific research at this combined meeting.  The first opportunity will be the CSCR/MWAFMR Poster Session on Friday, April 28, 2006.  Abstracts submitted for this poster session will be published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine.  The second opportunity will be at the ASCI Poster Session on Saturday, April 29, 2006.  At this poster session, you will be able to present your research to the ASCI and AAP members who are amongst the leading physician-scientists in the country and span across every sector ranging from academia, to the NIH, and the industry.

The combined meeting schedule listed below are all events that have been extended to APSA members and are included as part of your registration to the APSA meeting.  Each event on the agenda has been labeled with its sponsoring organization.  This combined meeting provides a unique opportunity for MD-PhD students to interact not only with each other but more importantly with leading physician-scientists from across the country and world as well as other younger physician-scientists.  Several opportunities have been provided to attendees to address their career development issues through informal social sessions, panel discussions, and Morning Mentoring Breakfasts.

The APSA portion of the meeting along with the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting will be held at the Fairmont Hotel.  The Fairmont Hotel is located in downtown Chicago on the northern edge across from the Millennium Park.  The CSCR/MWAFMR combined annual meeting, where APSA has one joint keynote speaker, will be held at the Mid-America Club (which is attached to the Fairmont Hotel).

On behalf of the 2006 APSA Annual Meeting Planning Committee, we have worked diligently to bring you a meeting that is not only full of stellar speakers but also gives you the opportunity to be exposed to the wide myriad of career opportunities available to physician-scientists.  Speakers represent every major field of medicine, academia, NIH, and industry.  These renowned speakers include Nobel Laureates, Albert Lasker Laureates, Wolf Prize Recipients, National Medal of Science Recipients, NIH Institute Directors, Department Chairs, and Howard Hughes Medical Investigators.

Registration is now available through our website: http://www.physicianscientists.org/Registration.html.  Upon registration, you will receive a registration confirmation and further instructions regarding Abstract Submission information.  We look forward to seeing all of you this spring in Chicago.

From the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting Planning Committee,

The American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians are pleased to invite you to the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting. The ASCI and AAP are longstanding honor societies committed to mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists. Through their annual meeting, the societies offer M.D.-Ph.D. students and those very early in their careers an opportunity to meet and receive advice from leaders in their fields. The meeting provides open question-and-answer panels on Friday and, new for 2006, a Morning Mentorship Breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. The breakfasts are excellent forums for discussion with senior physician-scientists of a range of topics related to your academic and clinical interests, your career concerns, and more.

Of course, you'll also be able to hear talks from distinguished scientists whose work is at the frontiers of medicine, disease research, and patient care. You'll also be able to discuss your work at the meeting's Poster Session, meet fellow M.D.-Ph.D. students, and be among an elite group of physician-scientists gathered in one place. It's an invaluable experience -- and as an APSA member, there is no cost for you to attend. We hope you'll make the time to meet with us in Chicago. We look forward to seeing you there.

On behalf of the ASCI/AAP Joint Meeting Planning Committee,

Eric R. Fearon, 2005-2006 ASCI President

From the CSCR/MWAFMR Combined Annual Meeting Planning Committee,

CSCR and MWAFMR will extend complimentary registration to those APSA members who are students, fellows or trainees to attend the 2006 Combined Annual Meeting.  The MWAFMR and the APSA will hold a joint session at the Combined Annual Meeting in which the two societies will present Michael Brown, MD as their keynote speaker.
